Elephants Huge Help in Recovery Effort
12/30/04
I saw a clip on CNN about Roshan Baddeliyanage, a 14 year old boy in Maryland collecting all kinds of donations (food, clothing, money) to send to Sri Lanka. It really touched me.
Please click here for his web site with info on where to snail mail donations:
I have written to him suggesting that he set up a Pay Pal account to facilitate donations. Until then, donations (for people who do not have a Bank of America account) can be sent via your individual bank's online "bill pay" feature. You would set up the following payee, then just send a payment (or you may send a check to the address via snail mail):
Bank of America Attention: Help Sri Lanka Account Payee Account ID: 003925531431Payee Address 1: Help Sri Lanka (donation) Payee Address 2: 17501 - Redland Rd. City: Derwood State: MD ZIP: 20855 Payee Phone: 301-519-0414

AJWS
reports:
American Jewish World Service is sending humanitarian aid to the people
affected by the tsunami.
For several years, AJWS has partnered with 24 non-governmental,
community-based organizations in the region on sustainable community
development projects.
[Arthur Waskow, author and director of the Shalom center adds : Because it
is
the only Jewish organization deliberately set up to
assist non-Jewish communities to develop themselves, it is the only one with
these kinds of grass-roots connections and experience in South Asia.]
AJWS is working with these local groups to assess needs and provide
emergency
relief - food, water, shelter and medicine -- and long-term development
support.
Donations for this relief effort are being sought and can be made by mail,
phone or Web site: American
Jewish World Service,
Asia Tsunami Relief, 45 West
